Google Plans to Enforce Two-Factor Authentication

It is quite easy to steal someone’s password and people should pay more attention to online security. Many users believe that a password should be as long and sophisticated as possible. However, in many cases this can actually increase the security risk. Complicated passwords tempt customers into using them for several accounts. Millions of Americans are using the same password across numerous sites, which makes all those accounts vulnerable. Google and other companies are trying to make the internet as safe as possible, and the tech giant is about to take a pretty important step that will reduce risk factors.

One of the smartest ways to protect a user’s password is to have a second form of verification in place. The company understands the importance of two-step verification as the company calls it.

It decided to enroll people in two-factor authentication by default. The company already has a two-factor authentication but it is not mandatory.

Google and online security

On World Password Day, which is celebrated on May 6, the company released a blog post. In the nearest future, the company will start automatically enrolling users in two-factor authentication if their accounts are appropriately configured. Users can check the status of their accounts in the company’s Security Checkup.

The company is also building advanced security technologies into devices to make the authentication process less stressful. Google is working hard to help its users. For example, the company created Security Keys directly into Android devices. It also launched Google Smart Lock for iOS. So, users can use their smartphones as their secondary form of authentication.

Apart from two-factor authentication, the tech giant offers other security measures as well. The Password Manager uses the latest technology to protect users’ passwords across all sites and apps. It makes it easier to create as well as use complex and unique passwords. There is no need to remember or repeat them. Every time users go to a site or sign in to an app while logged into their accounts, Password Manager can automatically populate their secure passwords. It is also integrated into the company’s single-click Google Security Checkup.

The company recently launched its new Password Import feature. The feature developed by the company allows customers to easily upload up to 1,000 passwords at a time from third party sites. Thanks to features like Password Import, Password Manager, and others it is possible to reduce risk factors.
