U.S. stocks were lower after the market trade, as losses in the Oil and Gas, Basic Materials and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.46 percent, while the S&P index tumbled 0.21 percent and the NASDAQ Composite index dropped 0.16 percent.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was Home Depot Inc. which soared 1.11 percent or 2.21 points to trade at 201.01 at the close. In the meantime, Merck & Company Inc. gained 1.02 percent or 0.80 points to end at 79.52 and Verizon Communications Inc. increased 0.83 percent or 0.47 points to 56.99 in late trade.
Dow Inc. dropped 6.11 percent or 3.43 points to trade at 52.70 at the close. Caterpillar Inc. weakened 2.16 percent or 2.98 points to end at 135.17 and Exxon Mobil Corp was down 1.75 percent or 1.38 points to 77.29.
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. increased 5.52 percent to 28.29. AmerisourceBergen which was up 5.00 percent to settle at 77.06 and Vulcan Materials Company which added 4.40 percent to close at 129.20.
Fluor Corporation which was down 24.09 percent to 29.72 in late trade, Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp Class A which lost 7.72 percent to settle at 66.61 and Dow Inc. which was down 6.11 percent to 52.70 at the close.
Diffusion Pharmaceuticals Inc. which soared 91.56 percent to 5.9000, FTD Companies Inc. which increase 46.67 percent to settle at 0.99 and Digimarc Corporation which added 44.77 percent to close at 47.92.
VistaGen Therapeutics Inc. which dropped 46.66 percent to 0.560 in late trade, Nuvectra Corporation which lost 34.72 percent to settle at 6.13 and CRA International Inc. which plunged 21.20 percent to 41.12 at the close.
Dipping stocks outnumbered advancing on the New York Stock Exchange by 1617 to 1345 and 118 ended unchanged. The NASDAQ Stock Exchange, 1413 increased a 1203 dropped, while 89 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fluor Corporation tumbled to 5-year lows; losing 24.09 percent or 9.43 to 29.72. Shares in Nuvectra Corporation plunged to 52-week lows; down 34.72 percent or 3.26 to 6.13. Shares in Digimarc Corp increased to all time highs; up 44.77 percent or 14.82 to 47.92.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, dropped 2.57 percent to 14.42.
Gold futures for June delivery dropped 0.97 percent or 12.45 to $1271.75 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD increased 0.00 percent to 1.1177, while USD/JPY soared 0.01 percent to 111.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18 percent at 97.588.
