Google Presented Its New Budget Phone Pixel 5a

On Tuesday, Google unveiled its new budget phone, 5a. As can be seen from the company’s latest budget phone, Google continues to dedicate resources to building fresh hardware across a range of prices. Its latest budget phone costs $449 and will launch in less than two weeks, more precisely on August 26.

The tech giant is gradually ramping up its hardware business. Presently, its hardware business doesn’t generate meaningful revenue compared with its services such as Search, YouTube, and Google Cloud.

The company finished its acquisition more than half a year ago, in January. Google also opened its first retail store in history in New York. Customers have the opportunity to test its products in Google’s retail store. All they need to do is visit the company’s store in Chelsea’s neighborhood to learn more about its products.

Google is also building a dedicated hardware campus in Silicon Valley dubbed “Midpoint.” Earlier this month, the company announced the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, two new high-end phones. This fall, the company will launch its high-end phones and will use a new Google Tensor chip instead of one made by Qualcomm. It also continues to release new versions of its Nest products, which include various gadgets.

Google Pixel 5a and its Competitors

Google’s latest budget phone is a moderate improvement over the last year’s Pixel 4a 5G. The new model is offering a larger battery, a slightly bigger screen, and water resistance. The phone offered by Google supports 5G but not the fastest mmWave 5G networks. It also comes with the same midrange Qualcomm processor as in the case of 4a. Google knows how to create a smooth and fast software experience even on lower-powered processors.

The tech giant offers features on its phones you don’t get from other Android phones. Its Pixel phones receive new versions of Android right away and updates are guaranteed for three years.

It might seem strange to unveil a new budget phone, given that Google’s more ambitious high-end phones are coming soon. The company plans to invest a lot of money in marketing its new flagship phones. So, customers who don’t want to spend more money on them may find the Pixel 5a a good compromise.

The company’s latest budget phone competes with Apple’s iPhone SE. Pixel 5a also competes with other low-cost Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G.
