Artificial Intelligence is an integral part of every tech company’s pitch to consumers. You might as well be hawking hand-cranked calculators if you fail to excite them about neural networks or machine learning when unveiling a new product. That may lead to overpromising people, however. Nevertheless, the situation is different from the recent WWDC performance. This is because Apple has adopted a quicker and smarter approach.
Apple made announcements concerning macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. The firm said that several updates and features have machine learning at their core. Nevertheless, Apple did not announce some features and updates on stage. Some features that almost certainly use artificial Intelligence were not identified as such. However, here is a quick recap of the more prominent mentions:
Nevertheless, there are absent on this list. The most notable absence is Siri. This is Apple’s perennially, disappointing digital assistant.
Siri is artificial intelligence heavy. It mostly got cosmetic updates this year. A new interface is an easy change for sure. Nevertheless, it is unimpressive when comparing the overall performance of Siri with other artificial intelligence assistants.
Those updates show that the interest of Apple in using machine learning is to deliver small conveniences rather than some grand, unifying artificial intelligence project. Some tech companies promised the same with their digital assistants. They claim to seamlessly improve your life by preempting your commute, scheduling your calendar, and so on.
That last project was always going to be a failure. This is because, for all its prowess, artificial Intelligence is just excellent pattern-matching software. It has myriad uses. Nevertheless, it does not mean computers may parse the very human complexities of something as ordinary as your calendar appointments.
