Amazon plans to expand Tech Hub in Boston

Amazon is one of the most well-known tech giants in the world. The company creates advanced technology, employing the brightest minds to develop innovations. To this end and according to reports, it’s planning to open a new office in Boston, with the main focus on software development, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence.

Amazon is going to expand its Boston Tech Hub. They plan to do this by creating more than 3,000 new corporate and technology jobs during the next several years. The new roles will support already existing teams across the company. This will include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Alexa, Amazon Pharmacy and Amazon Robotics.

Rohit Prasad, the VP & head scientist for Alexa at Amazon, stated that they are proud to be creating more than 3,000 new jobs over the next several years at their Boston Tech Hub. Prasad added that they invented much of the technology that makes Alexa smarter every day in Boston. In fact, amazon’s teams from this city play a key role in driving the company’s innovations from Alexa to Amazon Pharmacy to AWS. The company looks forward to being a strong community partner and helping to grow and diversify the Boston’s economy.

Amazon plans to create technology jobs in AI, machine learning and software development. They will also invest in non-tech corporate roles in product management, finance, HR, and more. The company already employs more than 3,700 people in its Boston Tech Hub though.

When will the new office begin working?

Amazon has already leased a new 17-story office tower located at One Boston Wharf Road to accommodate its growing teams in Boston. Boston-based development company WS Development owns this 630,000 square foot location. It will include working space, as well as innovation labs, and mixed-use common areas for new Amazon employees.

The WS Development plans to end the work on One Boston Wharf Road in 2024. The finished complex will feature a ground-floor retail space, a community dog park, and a new performing arts centre. The centre will be available for the citizens to enjoy with two live performance venues consisting of a 100-seat black box theatre and a 500-seat theatre. Both of them will add state-of-the-art capacity for the performing arts in the city.

Governor Charlie Baker stated that their administration welcomes Amazon’s continued efforts to invest in their communities. He added that this expansion is significant. It will create thousands of more jobs for Boston’s highly skilled workforce in different regions of the Commonwealth.

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh also noted that Amazon is continuing to create new economic opportunities in the city by further expanding its Boston Tech Hub. This expansion will grow the city’s technology workforce, along with supporting a strong pipeline of diverse talent and opportunities for Boston residents.
